A WOMAN attacked over a spilled drink at a pub is today fighting for her life.

Mam-of-one Claire Hilton is wired up to a life support machine in the intensive care unit at Middlesbrough’s James Cook Hospital.

Her family had been hoping that she may be transferred to a spinal injuries unit but the 28-year-old took a turn for the worse yesterday.

Telesales adviser Claire was left paralysed following the unprovoked attack just yards from her home in West Boldon, South Tyneside.

Dad Paddy told the Chronicle that the family are just praying that Claire pulls through.

The 56-year-old floor layer said: “We don’t know what happened. She seemed to be having a good day but then they tried to give her a drink and she ended up on the life support machine.

“When I saw her she said something was wrong with her lung and then she was coughing and spluttering. She tried to have a drink and it all went wrong from there.

“When I phoned last night they said she was stable but we’re just keeping our fingers crossed.”
